About the Expedition

On January 21, 2010, scientists from the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division of the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (CRED/PIFSC), along with visiting scientists from the University of Guam and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) will depart on a month-long expedition in the vicinity of Guam and the CNMI aboard the NOAA Research Vessel Oscar Elton Sette. The main focus of the cruise will be to assess the feasibility of non-extractive sampling gear (AUV, baited camera stations and fisheries echosounders) to characterize fishery resources through comparisons with data collected using traditional extractive gear (fishing gear), and to gather quantitative information about deeper reef fish assemblages.
